1996: Julie Christie had all but disappeared from acting on film. her own choice as she had given up on the 'hollywood life'. kate was a year away from her major star turn in 'titanic' and one year past her first oscar nom for 'sense and sensibility'. then ophelia and gertrude met on the set of 'hamlet'. they are reason enough to watch this at times oddly cast kenneth branagh vanity production. jack lemmon and billy crystal? indeed!
however it is to mr. branagh's credit that he got miss christie out of her self imposed sabbatical.
yet the screen comes alive when winslet and christie grace it with their unlimited talent. and act the hell out of their respective roles.
they would work together again in the more popular and in my opinion better 'finding neverland'. they compliment each other brilliantly. although i was a bit taken aback that jules could play kate's mother. where did the time go? and they became fast friends to boot.
i own because they are in it. i leave the renting or owning to you. if you are a fan of either of these ladies give it a definite go.
